Day 1: Airport-Colombo
We will have your flight details ahead of time and have a driver-guide to meet you at the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). After picking up your luggage, please look for a signboard with your name. After that, you will be transferred to Colombo.
Many travellers choose to stay Colombo as their first stop. Similarly, this 12 Days in Sri Lanka tour itinerary includes two nights in Colombo. After that, tour the interior of the island.
Day 2: Colombo
Firstly, at 10:00 am your driver-guide will take you around the city. Colombo is definitely more hectic and traffic, but you will enjoy modern Sri Lanka.
Places of interest in Colombo are Gangaramaya Temple, Sri Kailawasanathan Swami Hindu Temple, Jami-UI-Alfar Mosque (Red Mosque), Pettah Market, Independence Square, the ocean-facing Galle Face Green and Dutch hospital. Furthermore, visit Laksala for handicrafts, tea and gems at reasonable prices. Finally, visit the Odel for retail experience at its finest.
Day 3: Colombo - Sigiriya
Today, after early breakfast check-out from the hotel. Now, we are travelling in to the interior of the country. Visit popular tourist attractions in Sri Lanka. Firstly, visit the famous Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Secondly, visit the Cave Temples in Dambulla. And check-in to your hotel in Sigiriya.
Day 4: Sigiriya & Polonnaruwa
Your holiday in Sri Lanka will not be completed without seeing Sigiriya, one of the most visited tourist attractions in Sri Lanka. Ancient City of Sigiriya, lie on the steep slopes and at the summit of a granite peak. Standing some 180m high and dominates the jungle from all sides. A series of galleries and staircases emerging from the mouth of a gigantic lion, provide access to the site.
In any case,if you are planning to climb the Sigiriya, we suggest you to start very early. So, you could avoid the midday heat and the tourist crowds. Certainly, it’s a much more enjoyable without the tourist crowds.
After that, visit Polonnaruwa. One of the best planned archaeological relic sites in Sri Lanka protected by UNESCO. The main attractions include a number of dagobas and other ruins dating back almost 1000 years.
Day 5: Sigiriya - Kandy
Today, after leisurely breakfast check-out from the hotel and travel to Kandy. Sacred City of Kandy, is the last seat of Sinhalese kings whose patronage enabled the Sinahala culture to flourish for more than 2,500 years until the occupation of Sri Lanka by the British in 1815.
Day 6: Tour of Kandy
At first sight, Kandy town seems more hectic and heavy traffic. Yet, it's worth staying two nights, as there are many places to see in Kandy. Most importantly, the Temple of the Tooth, one of the most sacred Buddhist temples in the world. The temple has decorative walls, a golden roof and fine woodwork. Religious services with traditional music and drumming are held daily at dawn, mid-day and in the evening where guests can participate.
Other places to visit in Kandy are the famous wood carvings at Embekka Devalaya and Lankatilake Temple. During your time in Kandy, may like to visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, about 6 km outside of town. Finally, enjoy the Cultural Dance Show.
Day 7: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
From Kandy, you will then travel to Nuwara Eliya. A wonderful town in the Sri Lanka's hill country, that rises from 3000 ft. to over 8000 ft. and surrounded with velvety green freshness year round. The approach to Nuwara Eliya, whether by road or rail, is through narrow passes, deep ravines, gushing streams and water falls.
One fabulous way of reaching Nuwara Eliya is to take a train from Peradeniya to Nanu Oya. The train ride between Peradeniya and Nanu Oya has often been described as the most scenic train ride in the world. However, if you choose to travel by train, we need to book your seats ahead of time.
Day 8: Tour of Nuwara Eliya
Nuwara Eliya is a beautiful place to stay in the Sri Lanka hill country. Hiking lovers will enjoy climbing to the top of Piduruthalagala the island's highest peak. Walk all the way to the famous world's End at the Horton Plains National Park, about 30 km outside the city. Also there are picturesque waterfalls to be seen.
Day 9: Tour of Ella - Yala
After breakfast, check-out from the hotel in Nuwara Eliya and travel to Ella. A small village located high in the hill country of Sri Lanka. Ella has some of the best views in Sri Lanka, but it is highly underrated as a tourist destination. Ravana Falls, Ravana cave with the temple, Demodara Railway Station, 9 Arch Stone Bridge and Ella Rock are must see attractions when touring Ella area. Now, it's time to leave the hill country behind and head towards south west coast of Sri Lanka.
Day 10: Yala - Hikkaduwa
If you are a wildlife lover, you can't miss a game drive in a 4WD safari jeep through the Yala National Park. If you spend an entire afternoon, on a safari around Yala, you will lucky to spot leopard, deer, elephants and many colourful bird species. After that, you will continue you journey to the south coast of Sri Lanka.
Day 11: Hikkaduwa
Enjoy a day off to rest. Hikkaduwa is a good place to relax as there isn’t much to do. Just massive beaches and unlimited sun, sea, sand and surf all year round.
Day 12: Galle - Airport
Finally, you can't leave Sri Lanka without vising Galle. A guided walk around Galle is like taking a journey through the history of Sri Lanka, from Dutch colonial times to the present day.
After that, you will be transferred to the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) for your departure flight.
