Day 1: Colombo Airport – Unawatuna
We will have your flight details ahead of time and have a driver-guide to meet you at the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport. After picking up your luggage, please look for a signboard of your name. You will then be transferred to the hotel situated in Unawatuna – Sri Lanka, where you will stay for next 3 nights. Check-in to the hotel and have a good rest after a long journey.
The distance between Unawatuna and BIA Airport Colombo is about 152 km. If the scenic coastline is taken the transfer will last 4 hours and 30 minutes, while the southerner express highway will take you approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to get there.
Day 2 & 3: Unawatuna
Sri Lanka is a paradise of unlimited sun, sea, sand and surf all year round. The southwest coast of the island is at its best for sea adventures for bathing and surfing. Your driver-guide will be at your service to look into all your transportation need and you may choose to rest on the beach or visit nearby attractions.
A Short tours can be arranged from your beach hotel to typical villages in the interior and points of interest, such as Hikkaduwa (coral), Galle (old Dutch Fort), Ambalangoda (mask making) and several Buddhist temples with interesting temple murals of the Buddhist revivalist period.
Weather: Average weather in Galle/Unawatuna areas fluctuates from 26C to 34C depending on the season.
Day 4: Wildlife safari
Today, after early breakfast check-out from the Unawatuna hotel and leave for your next hotel, situated in Tissamaharama (Thissa), enabling you to experience Half-day game drive from 2PM – 6PM into the Block-1 of most popular Yala National Park of Sri Lanka. Do not worry about booking 4WD safari jeeps, trekkers or tickets as we take care everything for you.
Yala National Park is not only the most visited, but also the second largest nature reserve in Sri Lanka, with a history of over 100 years, this famed sanctuary is the world’s best place to spot the exclusive Sri Lankan leopards, elephants, and carefree sloth bears – all in their natural habitat within a single reserve. In addition to having one of the highest conservation of leopards in the world, Yala National Park is home to over 40 other mammals and over 200 species of birds as well.
There are many interesting places to visit around Thissa such as pilgrim site of Kataragama, Kirinda beach and several other historic sites.
The distance between Unawatuna and Thissamaharama is about 169 km and the transfer will last about 3 hours.
Day 5: Ella
After leisurely breakfast, check-out from the hotel and travel to Ella (driving distance 100 km – 2 hrs drive). Ella is a small village located high in the hill-country of Sri Lanka. Ella has some of the best views in Sri Lanka, but it is highly underrated as a tourist destination. Ravana Falls, Ravana cave with the temple, Demodara Railway Station, 9 Arch Stone Bridge and Ella Rock are must see attractions when touring Ella area.
Driving distance between Thissamaharama and Ella is about 95 km that will take you approximately 2 hours.
Day 6: Ella – Kandy
Today, take a train ride from Ella to Kandy, that is said to be one of the picturesque ride as you see beautiful green hills covered with tea plantations, steep mountains, old bridges, waterfalls and small villages in a total distance of 151 km which last around seven hours ride.
Have early breakfast or you could ask the hotel to arrange picnic breakfast to have while travelling and drive to the Ella railway station by 9:00am to board the train that departs by 9:23am from the Ella railway station. Your chauffeur guide, will then be followed the train by road and will meet you at the Kandy railway station upon arrival by 3:51pm. You will then be transferred to the hotel in Kandy.
There are quite a few different carriage options available in Sri Lanka trains. If you are an adventure lover, we suggest you to experience 2nd class carriage as it is not air-conditioned and you can open the windows to take photographs.
Day 7: Kandy
You have a full day to explore the city of Kandy, as there are many places to see. One of the most visited tourist attractions in Kandy is the Temple of the Tooth where a sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is enshrined since 4th Century AD. The temple has decorative walls, a golden roof and fine woodwork. Religious services with traditional music and drumming are held daily at dawn, mid-day and in the evening where guests can participate. During the tour of Kandy, you can also visit the famous wood carvings at Embekka Devalaya, Lankatilake Temple, Peradeniya Gardens, Kandy Garrison Cemetery and the Kandy Lake and the Kandyan Cultural Show.
Day 8: Day tour to Dambulla & Sigiriya
Morning at leisure. Check-out from your hotel in Kandy around 12 noon and travel to Sigiriya en-route visiting Dambulla Cave Temple. Late afternoon, meet your guide at the entrance of Sigiriya whom will be offering you a full commentary tour of Sigiriya. Upon completion, you will be transferred to a hotel conveniently located between Colombo and BIA airport.
Driving distance between Kandy and Sigiriya is about 3 hours – 95 km and driving distance between Sigiriya and Colombo would be 4 hours – 180km
Day 9: City tour of Colombo
Have a good rest in the morning. Your driver-guide will be at your service in case if you want to do shopping in Colombo. You can also do the city tour of Colombo with your driver-guide visiting Gangaramaya Temple, Sri Kailawasanathan Swami Devasthanam Kovil (Hindu Temple), Jami-UI-Alfar Mosque (Red Mosque), Pettah Market, Independence Square, the ocean-facing promenade of Galle Face Green, Dutch hospital, and more.
Day 10: Transfer to the Airport
You are at the end of your Sri Lanka vacation with us. After breakfast, your driver-guide will take you to the airport in good time for your flight home.
