Day 1: Airport to Colombo

driving route: 40 km (0 h 45min)

We will have your flight details ahead of time and have a driver-guide to meet you at the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport. After picking up your luggage, please look for a signboard with your name. You will then be transferred to your first hotel in Colombo. Sri Lanka’s main airport Bandaranaike International Airport is actually located in Katunayake, about 35 km north of central Colombo. Many travellers choose to stay Colombo as their first stop and this tour itinerary includes two nights in Colombo, before moving on to the interior of the island.

Day 2: Colombo

After leisurely breakfast, at 10:00 am your driver -guide will take you around the city of Colombo visiting famous landmarks. Colombo is definitely more hectic and traffic, but it’s still worth visiting the places of interest in Colombo such as Pettah, Beira Lake, Galle Face Green area and Gangaramaya temple complex. In the evening you may choose to relax at the hotel or visit a SPA for for a body treatment.

Day 3: Colombo - Sigiriya

After early breakfast check-out from the Colombo hotel and leave for Sigiriya (driving distance 180 km / travel duration around 4 hours), from where you could explore many popular tourist attractions and cultural and historical sites of Sri Lanka. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage & Dambulla Cave Temples can be visited en-route.

Day 4: Sigiriya & Polonnaruwa

Sigiriya Rock is one of the Sri Lanka’s fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Sites situated about 30 min from your hotel and if you are planning to climb the rock, we suggest you to start very early to avoid the midday heat and the tourist crowds (it’s a much more enjoyable without the tourist crowds).

Late afternoon, you can tour the Ancient City of Polonnaruwa; one of the best planned archaeological relic sites in Sri Lanka protected by UNESCO. The main attractions include a number of dagobas and other ruins dating back almost 1000 years.

Day 5: Sigiriya - Kandy

Today, travel from Sigiriya to Kandy via Matale (driving distance 90 km – around 3 hrs). Kandy is the last seat of the Sinhalese kings, who ceded power to the British in 1815, after many a battle with the western colonial forces, still retains must of its old world charm and traditions of the Sri Lankan life style.

Day 6: Tour of Kandy

There are many places to see in Kandy and one of the most visited tourist attractions in Kandy is the Temple of the Tooth where a sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is enshrined since 4th Century AD. The temple has decorative walls, a golden roof and fine woodwork. Religious services with traditional music and drumming are held daily at dawn, mid-day and in the evening where guests can participate.

During the tour of Kandy, you can also visit the famous wood carvings at Embekka Devalaya, Lankatilake Temple, Peradeniya Gardens, Kandy Garrison Cemetery and the Kandy Lake and the Kandyan Cultural Show.

Day 7: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

The hill country, in the heart of the island, rises from 3000 ft. to over 8000 ft. and will surrounded you with velvety green freshness year round. The approach, whether by road or rail, is through narrow passes, deep ravines, gushing streams and water falls.

One fabulous way of exploring the Nuwara Eliya is to take a train journey from Kandy. Nuwara Eliya does not have its own train station and the nearest station is Nanu-Oya, about 9 km along the road towards Hatton. Kandy to Nanu Oya train route is one of the most scenic in the country, but it takes at about 4 hours (train departures from Peradeniya Railway Station at 12:30 pm and arrives in Nanu-Oya Railway Station by 4 pm ).

Day 8: Tour of Nuwara Eliya

Land of peace and silence and the the town of Nuwara Eliya is decorated with buildings ranging in style from Georgian to Queen Ann. Parks, trout streams, an 18 hole golf course complete with gorse, the post office with the clockspire, the Anglican Church, Hill Club and many more. Enjoy the tea experience with a walk through a tea plantation and a visit to a tea factory. There are also several picturesque waterfalls to be explored. Piduruthalagala, the island’s highest peak, is a short trek away and the breathtaking view is worth the climb. Less than 2 km, from Nuwara Eliya is Sita Amman Kovil, believed to be the spot where Sita was kept in hiding by Ravana of the Indian epic Ramayana.

Day 9: Tour of Ella - Tissa

After leisurely breakfast, check-out from the hotel and travel to Ella (driving distance 55 km - 2 hrs drive). Ella is a small village located high in the hill-country of Sri Lanka. Ella has some of the best views in Sri Lanka, but it is highly underrated as a tourist destination. Ravana Falls, Ravana cave with the temple, Demodara Railway Station, 9 Arch Stone Bridge and Ella Rock are must see attractions when touring Ella area.

Day 10: Wildlife safari - Beach

This morning, you can enjoy half-day game drive in a 4WD safari jeep through the Yala National Park from 6 am to 10 am. Yala National Park is famous for world’s highest densities of leopards and its elephant population seen in small and large herds. Spotted deer, Sambuhur, Barking deer, Monkey, Wild Baffalo, Wild Boer, Sloth Bear and innumerable varieties of endemic and migratory birds. Peacock is the most famous of the birds at the Yala. The mating dace of the male with its colourful plumes fully spread is a photographer’s delight.

In the late afternoon, check-out from the hotel and leave for southwest coast visiting Kataragama Temple, Kirinda beach and several other historic sites en-route.

Day 11: leisure on the beach

Sri Lanka is a paradise of unlimited sun, sea, sand and surf all year round. The southwest coast of the island is at its best for sea adventures for bathing and surfing.

Short tours shall be arranged from your beach hotel to typical villages in the interior and points of interest, such as Hikkaduwa (coral), Galle (old Dutch Fort), Ambalangoda (mask making) and several Buddhist temples with interesting temple murals of the Buddhist revivalist period.

Day 12: Transfer to Airport

You will be transferred to the CMB Katunayake Airport in good time, for your flight home. ( Driving distance between your beach hotel in the southwest coast to CMB Katunayake Airport 155 km - 2 hrs 30 min).
